Dental implants are a great option for replacing missing teeth, and can be used to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth. At Deschutes Dental Center, the implant process starts with a comprehensive consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. Dr. Sherry will also discuss the different implant options available to you based on your specific goals in mind. If you are a candidate for the treatment, Dr. Sherry will begin by removing the tooth that cannot be restored, rebuilding the missing bone structure, and allowing for the area to heal before proceeding. During the implant placement procedure, a small titanium implant will be surgically placed into your gums and jaw bone. After the implant has been placed, the area around it will need time to heal and fuse to the implant, which can take several months. Once the implant has integrated with the bone, you will return to our office to have an “abutment”, or a connector post, placed on your implant, and an impression for a custom fit crown will be taken to attach to the implant. At your final appointment, your custom dental crown will be fitted and bonded in place, completing the procedure.

Typically, dental implants require very little additional maintenance. They are cared for like natural teeth and require that you brush and floss as you normally would, and visit our office for a cleaning and an oral exam on your regular schedule.
